The IT-Finance Connection’s Views on the News

January 8, 2009

In a couple of somewhat related pieces of news, Hypathia Research related a report this week describing the status of BI in the health care industry and Talent Retriever included BI on its list of top skill areas.

The Hypathia Report, according to the press release, mentioned some big medical institutions that use BI and related disciplines to cut costs, improve care and enhance research. The report looks at some obstacles to implementation, which include funding, interoperability of tools used between departments and regulatory changes. Finally, the release outlines the type of projects that will continue to be supported during the recession.

The Talent Retriever 2009 IT Skills Outlook Review is related in that one of its goal is to offer insight into whether or not to seek work in a particular field. Medical BI can be a target for job seekers. This year’s report says that wireless and mobility, Web 2.0, virtualization, security and BI are the top areas. It’s unclear if the vocational areas are presented in order. In any case, making the top five is good news for BI proponents.
